Two-factor authentication is an optional feature you can use to keep your Joyent Cloud account safe from misuse.

As its name implies, two-factor authentication relies on two factors:

  • Something you know: your password.
  • Something you have: a unique code generated by an app on your smartphone.

Get the Google Authenticator App

The Google Authenticator app generates a unique code that you use as the second factor in two-factor authentication.

Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Log in to your Joyent Cloud account using your password.
  2. Go to the Profile section.
    You can find the Profile section by clicking your name in the upper right corner of your account page.
  3. Check the option labeled Two-Factor Authentication.
  4. Click Update Settings
  5. When you see a bar-code, use the Google Authenticator app to scan it.
    This creates a new entry in the app associated with your Joyent Cloud account
  6. Enter the number that appears in the Google Authenticator app.

Logging In to Your Account with Two-Factor Authentication

  1. Log in to your Joyent Cloud account using your password.
  2. You wil see a request for an authentication code from Google Authenticator.
  3. Use the app and enter the number you see.
    Note that the code changes every 30 seconds.

Disabling Two-Factor Authentication

To disable two-factor authentication:

  1. Log in to your Joyent Cloud account using two-factor authentication.
  2. Go to the Profile section.
    You can find the Profile section by clicking your name in the upper right corner of your account page.
  3. Uncheck the option labeled Two-Factor Authentication.
  4. Click Update Settings
