When shutting down or rebooting your SmartMachine, you need to ensure that you do so in a way that gracefully shuts down all dependent servers (especially databases). You can shut down or reboot your SmartMachine from the command line or from my.joyentcloud.com.

You can also shut down or reboot your machine by using the Reboot or Shutdown buttons in the Cloud Management portal. See below.
In addition to the above methods, you can invoke a script that will shutdown or reboot your SmartMachine if you provisioned it from a SmartMachine Standard image. These scripts call the system in a way that shuts down more gracefully than usual methods.
You invoke this script by running the sm-reboot command. The location of this script is /opt/local/bin/sm-reboot.
