Setting up a Panel shortcut to the Connector in KDE
Here's the quick and easy method to creating an easy, pretty panel shortcut that goes straight to your Joyent Connector, using KDE Desktop for Linux. This assumes that you're using Firefox, although the methodology could be used for other browsers too.
- Right-Click on your panel, then go to “Panel Menu…” → “Add application to Panel” → “Add a Non-KDE Application”
- For “Button title”, put “Joyent Connector”.
For “Description”, put “Joyent Connector” (or whatever else you'd like the tooltip to say).
- For “Executable”, put “firefox”
- For “Command line arguments”, put ”-new-window http://yourorg.joyent.net” (or whatever URL you'd prefer for Joyent. I used “myorg.joyent.net/mail/mailbox/inbox” to go straight to my mailbox.
- Leave “Run in a terminal window” unchecked!
- To make it pretty, download Joyent's FavIcon from the web, at http://joyent.com/favicon.ico , and save it to your harddrive, someplace where it won't get deleted. Then, click on the icon in the Upper Left corner of the “Non-KDE Application Configuration” window. Check “Other icons”, and then browse and find the Joyent “favicon.ico” on your harddrive, then open it and hit “OK”.
- Finally, just click “OK” on the Config window, and your shortcut will show up on your taskbar, move it where you want it!
