All user passwords for your account can be changed via Virtualmin.
-
Under your primary virtual server, click Edit Virtual Server, change the Administration password option to Set to .. and enter your preferred password.
Click Save Virtual Server.
When you change the password for the primary user, your main MySQL password will change accordingly as well. This means that the password you use to access e.g. phpMyAdmin will be changed as well.
Even though you have access to the command line passwd binary to change your password, we advise against using it. If you do, Virtualmin will lose track of your password, and won’t be able to re-send it to you if you lose it, for instance.
The master user has the ability to use a different password for database access. To change this
From Virtualmin
Select Edit Databases from the left navigation
Select the Passwords tab from the right side
You are able to set the MySQL and PostgreSQL passwords to a different value.
Note that if you do this, Virtualmin will stop synchronizing the password (e.g. via the top approach on this page) between the system user and the respective MySQL or PostgreSQL user, until you revert the password option here.
-
Select the virtual server (domain) from the list that the user is set up under.
Click
Edit Mail and FTP Users.
Find the user in the list and click his name.
Change the Password option to Set to and enter the new password.
Click Save.
Virtualmin will refuse passwords that are less then 8 characters long, consist of a single dictionary word or contain the respective user’s name. A strong password should be a mix of upper and lower case letters, digits and other non-word characters.
