====== Concurrent Versions System (CVS) Overview ======

**CVS** is a centralized, client-server revision control system. It was previously a de-facto standard for many organizations, but because of [[wp>Concurrent_Versions_System#Limitations_and_Misconceptions|various limitations]], it is now losing grown to [[svn:Subversion]] and other revision control systems.

You may still want or need to use CVS. If you are on a Facebook Accelerator, or have chosen to use [[accelerators:kb:pkgsrc|pkgsrc]] on a full Accelerator, CVS will be a dependency for you, as it was pkgsrc was developed on top of CVS.
